COMM–1020–017 Principals of Public Speaking

(Principals of Public Speaking (CM, IN) [COMM–1020–017] )

  • Reflection:

The semester of this class has taught me to be more creative as related to keeping an audience’s attention. There is much to the format of the elements of a speech. Most of a speech can not be prepared for in the written word. It must come from the personality, from the heart, and off the cuff. The last speech I gave, I finally achieved what I had signed up for. I stood in front of the group without any nerviness in me. True, I have spoken in front of many different types of crowds and many times without any thought to fear, but my hands would get shaky or I would feel my cheeks getting red without any real cause to what I was saying.

I found the secret that works for my. Laugh. It brings a comradely to the group, and makes us share something. I was not nervous and one adjusts well to fear when laughing. That is probably why people laugh in unexpected nervous situations. Laughter is natural. Laughter is natural to me, and I must share it to share the way I feel with a group. This simple idea allows the audience to hear my message, remember my message, and me to feel uninhibited with the theme. There is nothing more difficult then to share a thought, for much if not all can be lost in the translation of words. Laughter is not words, it is an instinct older the humanity, or perhaps Laughter is the birth of humanity.

So I’ll end this “Reflection” with a thought in my head (and hope it translates into whatever form inspires you).
